Vote For Brenda Monarrez on Nov 5th
It is a pleasure to represent the 4th District. I just took office in January of 2023 and in just my first term I have accomplished so much for my constituents.. The last day of meetings I was absent due to a surgical procedure was September 19, 2023. Since then, I have missed only one day of meetings for all Environmental Quality and Public Works Committee, Social Services and Public Safety Committee, Council Work Session, Committee of the Whole, or Council Meetings.
I advocate for the needs of the 4th District and have dozens of accomplishments that I am proud to share:
1. The Wilson Downing Sidewalk Project. The top request from my constituents who live in the surrounding neighborhoods. Was expected 2020 originally and was postponed due to COVID. I was told it would be rebid in Spring of 2024 with potential construction in Spring 2025. Thanks to my immediate action as soon as I took office the project was put out to bid in 2023 and broke ground in February 2024 and will be completed Fall 2024.
2. Making changes to make Nicholasville Rd safer. On Nicholasville Rd. Northbound making the entrance to Brigadoon Parkway a Right-In Right-Out only. Extending the Left Turn Lane, turning left onto West Reynolds from Northbound Nicholasville Rd. Made sure this took effect prior to Thanksgiving weekend and the start of the Christmas shopping season.
3. I escalated the issue of odor control at the West Hickman wastewater treatment plant to the Mayor resulting in an emergency order to hire a contractor who specializes in odor control. Several issues identified at the plant are being addressed. The Mayor has also added a new, full-time position to the West HIckman Waste Water Treatment Plant starting in fiscal year 2025 (July 2024) as well as dedicated $6 million for the improvements needed to fix the odor issue thanks to my advocacy on behalf of my constituents.
4. I had the city’s Parks department move the boulders on the baseball field side of St. Elias and allow temporary parking. I have funded a design for the construction of a new Parking Lot and trail to be constructed by the entrance at St. Elias and Southpoint Drive.
5. Lowering the Speed Limit on East Tiverton Way and on Camelot Drive from 35 mph to 25 mph.
6. Edge lines on Camelot Drive. This visually narrows the road and reduces speeds.
7. Victoria Way from Bradford Colony to Man O’War northbound, NO PARKING ANYTIME on the entire block to keep parked cars from blocking the Right turn lane. The obstruction from parked cars was causing a long back up of traffic, especially during rush hour.
8. At Ridgewater supplementary Stop sign on the light pole of Clearwater Way going away from Man O’War.
9. A “Stop Sign Ahead” sign on the light pole next to the pool parking lot on Clearwater Way, towards MOW.
10. Revitalized Meadowbrook Park with new basketball and pickleball courts and a new playground.
11. Personally drove through and evaluated the streets for paving priorities. Paving in District 4 started in November and will continue at the beginning of the Spring paving season.
12. Fully funded basketball uniforms for Southern Elementary.
13. Changing the ordinance for loitering enforcement affecting where packaged liquor sales occur, such as convenient stores. Several businesses reached out due to gunshots and altercations attributed to loitering in District 4.
14. Fully funded furniture for outdoor learning space under new canopy at Veterans Park Elementary.
15. Fully funded Senior Cookout, Spelling bee prize (4 Kings Island Tickets) and over $1,000 for bus passes for students at Tates Creek High School. Students from the 4th District attend this school.
16. Flashing Stop signs at various locations:
a. 2 on Southpoint Dr at St. Elias (by the entrance to Veterans Park by the tank)
b. 4 on Wilson Downing and Belleau Wood Dr
c. 2 on Clearwater Way at Watertrace
d. 3 at Tiverton Way and Habersham Dr.
e. 2 at Clearwater Way and Ridgewater Dr
17. Wayfinder signs at Tiverton Way and Habersham, to keep semis from going east past Habersham and getting stuck at the end of Tiverton Way.
18. At Meadowbrook Park, a bollard was placed to keep cars from entering the pedestrian trail.
19. Funded t-shirts and events for Southern Middle School’s Spartan Day, a day of celebration by proclamation from the Mayor in 2022, it took place on Friday, March 22nd.
20. Soccer goals at Kirklevington Park.
21. Edgelines on Laredo Drive. Visually narrows the road to slow down traffic, a traffic calming measure.
22. I drove around all neighborhoods and there are trees obstructing the view of several Traffic signs, these will be either cut back or removed. Normally the City has homeowners bear the cost of removing and replacing trees in a different location. However, I don’t believe in penalizing a homeowner for a situation they did not create, the work will be done at no charge to homeowner.
23. A Pedestrian Crossing Refuge will be installed on Southpoint Dr. and Rose Hurst Way.
24. A Pedestrian Crossing Refuge on Tiverton Way at La Rue.
25. Speed tables on Fiddler Creek. I’ve offered to pay for speed tables for any street where the residents can gather at least 51% of the resident’s signatures, normally a neighborhood must contribute 50% of the cost of installing speed tables. This part of Pinnacle is technically in the 12th District because this street is part of a different precinct. However, I kept my promise to the neighborhood.3. Edgelines on Spangler Drive.
26. Wildwood Park Improvements: new raised pedestrian boardwalk. Many families cut through this park to walk their kids to and from Lansdowne Elementary.
27. Yellow curbing in various locations throughout the 4th District for both pedestrian and driver safety.
28. Cut back the foliage along Nicholasville Rd to improve line of sight for drivers. (From Jessamine co. to Toronto).
Paving the large collectors: Wilson Downing, Southpoint Drive, Clearwater Way.
Still to come, already ordered and I have allocated funding:
29. New dual purpose pickleball/tennis courts at Belleau Wood Park, Spring 2025.
30. A shelter for shade at Veterans Park dog park, fiscal year 2025.
31. Plans for a pedestrian trail for Veterans Park to have safe passage from the sidewalk at Southpoint Drive to the pedestrian trails at the back.
32. A design for expanded parking at Veterans Park by the baseball fields.
33. Repaving the parking lot at Meadowbrook Park, FY2025.
34. Repaving the pedestrian trail at Meadowbrook Park and adding a new loop.
35 Edgelines on Forest Green Drive.
